Welcome to Claycult Cambodia where all our ceramic beads are handmade at our studio/workshop in Siem Reap, home to Angkor Wat and the great Angkor temples.
Claycult Cambodia offers, discerning ladies, a range of exquisite necklaces, bracelets and earrings in addition to ceramic beads. Our ceramic beads are offered in bulk and for wholesale for jewellery manufacturers.
Our primary objective is to make Claycult Cambodia into a profitable business, to provide sustainable, long term employment in a safe work environment and to offer education and training to our, at present 16, Cambodian staff.
We care for our staff and have built Claycult as much to cater to their needs as ours. Ideally, as the business grows, we would hope to hand over more and more of the business into their hands and to step back and leave them to it.
All of our staff have had limited, very limited in this recovering country, opportunities to show what they can achieve. We teach them the skills we have and nurture and encourage the talents they show. We provide training in all aspects of the business from the making of the clay and beads, to the techniques of painting and glazing, to colour and design, to the assembly of jewellery and on to marketing, accounting, sales and customer relations.
We employ mostly women and adapt the work place to their lives as much as possible, out sourcing to those who are unable to come to the workshop because of family commitments or flexi hours to accommodate those caring for families. We encourage education, sending those who have a desire to school. Our staff is paid a fair wage, many of them being the sole supporter of an extended family, a fresh home cooked lunch is also provided.
Nothing we do is mass-produced. All our items are hand crafted; from the digging and production of the clay, to the rolling, shaping and painting of the beads to the creation of our beautiful jewellery. Our team includes some very creative young people who gain inspiration from their history, including the great temples of Angkor and thus find a way to connect with their lost past. It is an everyday wonder to watch the staff who, not long ago, knew nothing of clay, beads, design, the firing of clay, sales and so forth, step forward with ideas and designs of their own which we encourage and then encourage some more.
Claycult Cambodia is just beginning; we have been open for business only four years. We are learning and adapting to what works and what doesn’t, what sells and doesn’t, what you might imagine would never sell and does. We learn as much from our failures as we have our successes.
Inspired by the world around us, we bring the culture of the Khmer people and the colours of this land into our designs.
Claycult Cambodia, not just beautiful jewellery but something from the heart of this mystic land.
